Harmondsworth , United Kingdom – August 30 th, 2005 – Woolworths Group plc, the United Kingdom’s leading retailer for home, family, and entertainment, is deploying state of the art anti-shoplifting solutions from TAG Company International into its 826 stores throughout the UK to promote the sale of live merchandise in-store whilst protecting it from would-be shoplifters. Woolworths will benefit from a range of EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) solutions, including 8.2MHz RF pedestal systems located at store entrances, distance deactivation, detachers, and a breakthrough wireless Management Information system to stream data such as store-specific customer counting and alarm activity to Woolworths’ HQ. TAG will be installing Lucatron brand pedestal systems and deactivators throughout the chain with accessories from WG Security Products, Point Six, and inVizion. Included in the exclusive agreement is the supply of consumables to protect Woolworths’ merchandise, including TAG Company’s patented Self Seal™ Tag, the leading Entertainment Media Loss Protection solution in the UK and the patented Red Tag™ DVD & Game Security System from AGI Media Packaging.. TAG’s Service organisation will provide both remote and on-site maintenance support throughout the life of the systems deployed.
The key benefits of Woolworths’ EAS solution will be maximised revenue through ‘live’ merchandising, with added security, protecting highly desirable goods. In addition, store-specific Management Information or ‘Intelligent EAS’ will provide Woolworths with data and diagnostics to proactively manage their EAS program, enabling the Group to combine retail security with staffing and promotional activity.
Matt Jackson, Head of Operations for Woolworths Group plc, said “Our EAS solution will enable us to more aggressively merchandise throughout our stores. A key factor in our decision to deploy EAS throughout our estate is to enable Woolworths to further the open or “live” merchandising of CD’s, DVD’s, and other media formats. We see EAS as a vital component of Woolworths’ focus on improving our customers’ shop ping experience. With EAS, we can conduct transactions of all store merchandise at any Point of Sale. In terms of queue-busting and enhancing revenue and profitability, we see this as a great leap forward for the Group. We selected TAG Company because it offers the greatest range of tagging solutions and experience in delivering customized solutions and source tagging. In addition, TAG has a proven track record in project managing and installing large chain rollouts. TAG’s integrated approach brings to Woolworths a range of technology partners to deliver the solution we require.”
Phil Doyle , Director of Sales and Business Development, EMEA, commented “We couldn’t be more pleased to serve one of the UK’s most respected High Street retailers and one of the country’s largest music retailers. It’s an important win for TAG Company and underlines the acceptance of TAG’s innovative, customer focused approach to the retail marketplace.
