Self Seal Tag™
TAG's patented Self Seal Tag product range was developed in the 1990s to meet the requirements of providing shelf-ready Entertainment Media products with an integrated security device. It incorporates an EAS or RFID Element and an integrated overlay which carries either security messaging or branding. Self Seal Tag, Wrap and Labels are now used to protect many merchandise categories beyond entertainment media, including boxed electrical items, perfume presentation packs and boxed lingerie.
Self Seal Tag is currently used to protect around 45% of the CD albums sold in the UK through high street retail and supermarkets. The remaining are protected with ‘safer cases’, not openly merchandised (Master bagged), or not protected.
Self Seal Tag is proven to increase on shelf availability by 28% versus safers, and does not contribute to the transaction time at the point of sale, like both master-bagging and the process of detaching a safer. This ensures sales throughput can be maximised during peak trading periods such as Christmas, which sees a 4 fold increase in sales.
By applying Self Seal Tag at Source, product is also protected in the supply chain and the returns are therefore even greater. Amortising auto-application machinery (capable of scanning barcode data to implement a price point / genre driven tagging policy) over a 3 year period, the typical cost of application is around £3/1000 units. Self Seal Tag also helps drive green initiatives in store, using approximately 60% less plastic than shrink wrapping CDs, and even more when applied to a DVD.
